Hanwha Aerospace signs K9 export execution contract with Spain's Indra, first Western European sale

Hanwha Aerospace signed the K9 self-propelled howitzer export execution contract with Spain's Indra Sistemas on August 31, 2026, converting the March 2026 binding agreement into a firm order and making Spain the 11th K9 operator nation and Hanwha's first artillery customer in Western Europe. The contract value is undisclosed; Korean reporting estimates the initial tranche at a minimum of about 667.5 billion won (~$480 million), with Hanwha receiving a 20% down payment at signing and a further 5% by year-end. Unit counts and the delivery schedule are confidential. The program follows Spain's deep-localization model, with hulls and much of the production led by Indra in Spain, a structure widely expected to shape follow-on negotiations with Poland and Romania.
