US Army K9MH Mobile Tactical Cannon Prototype Contract

The US Army awarded Hanwha Defense USA a contract to deliver six K9MH 8x8 wheeled 155mm howitzer prototypes on an accelerated schedule under the Mobile Tactical Cannon program, the Army's effort to replace the M777 towed howitzer. The award carries a $100.3 million base value with an option for 12 additional vehicles that lifts the ceiling to $262.9 million, followed by roughly four years of operational evaluation. It is Hanwha Defense USA's first major direct US Army contract and Hanwha's entry into the US domestic artillery market; prototypes will be assembled at the company's Opelika, Alabama facility.
