DAPA LAMD anti-drone air defense counter-UAS North Korea defense policy
South Korea is establishing a national policy framework to build anti-drone defense capabilities as unmanned aerial threats become increasingly significant in modern warfare. DAPA plans to deploy the Low Altitude Missile Defense (LAMD) system prototype by 2029, two years ahead of schedule, to counter North Korean long-range artillery targeting the Seoul metropolitan area. The strategy combines radar, tactical communications, launchers, and interceptors designed to neutralize simultaneous low-altitude attacks, complementing existing Patriot and THAAD layers.
