Romania K9 Thunder SPH Order

Romania ordered 54 K9 self-propelled howitzers with 36 K10 ammunition resupply vehicles under a contract signed on July 9, 2024, with most of the vehicles to be manufactured in Romania. The acquisition is part of Romania's broader military modernization and NATO force integration. The Romanian variant is designated K9 Tunetul; the first unit exited Hanwha Aerospace's Changwon production line on March 30, 2026, and the first batch of 18 K9s and 12 K10s arrived in Romania around September 25, 2026, roughly six months ahead of the original early-2027 first-delivery date. Convoy footage also showed a K12 armored recovery vehicle that was not listed in the original order. The initial vehicles are provisionally assigned to the 4th Infantry Division in Cluj-Napoca.
