Iraq Cheongung-II (M-SAM) Air Defense System

Iraq signed a $2.8 billion contract for eight Cheongung-II (M-SAM Block II) air defense batteries as it shifts away from dependence on aging Russian air defense assets. Iraqi officials said in July 2025 that the system was expected to be delivered within months, as part of Iraq's largest post-2003 air defense modernization. LIG Nex1 builds the missile and integrated system, Hanwha Systems supplies the radar, and Hanwha Aerospace manufactures launchers and vehicles.
