Iraq Cheongung-II (M-SAM) Air Defense System

Iraq signed a $2.8 billion contract for eight Cheongung-II (M-SAM Block II) air defense batteries to replace aging Russian air defense assets. Deployment commenced in 2026 as part of Iraq's largest post-2003 air defense modernization. LIG Nex1 builds the missile and integrated system, Hanwha Systems supplies the radar, and Hanwha Aerospace manufactures launchers and vehicles. Third Middle Eastern Cheongung-II customer after the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
